Ratpublicans are not content merely sabotaging
the ability of people of color and as many Democrats as possible to vote. Or
stealing Supreme Court seats. Or mounting an insurrection to overthrow the
United States government. Or giving all of our tax dollars to the wealthiest
Americans. Or making sure poor people stay poor. Or packing local school boards
with COVID-spreading, neo-fascist numb-nuts.
Several red-meat states are worried that white,
Christian, heterosexual men are becoming an endangered species. That their
fragile egos, and hard-fought image as the epitome of civilization is being
battered by facts and history. They want schools to teach both sides of the
Nazi Holocaust, but pretend that they had nothing to be ashamed of when it
comes to slavery, which they would prefer you just pretend was no big thing
anyway.
For their latest ploy to whitewash history, and they
hope by extension, the future, they are busily banning all kinds of books. Yes,
for those of you who remember books, you would be excused for thinking that
banning books went out with brown shirts, death trains and gas chambers.
Unfortunately, like so much else from those days of ignorance horror, and toxic
whiteness, book-banning is coming back in vogue in red states all across the
land. Besides banning masks, vaccines, science and reality, the freshly minted
governor of Virginia Glen Youngkin, (What, no recount?), was first out of the
gate, hard(ly) at work banning anything that vaguely implies that white people
in America, and one presumes anywhere on God’s white Earth, ever did anything
to be ashamed of, since God chose them to be in charge of everything, and none of that stuff really
happened anyway.
When
not quoting Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to make it sound like he loved
white folks and thought black people just needed to get with the program,
Youngkin is finally putting a full stop to something that never actually
happened – teaching Critical Race Theory in public schools in Virginia. Youngkin
has set up a tip/snitch line so that good white folks can rat out anyone they
think is teaching Critical Race Theory. Thank blond, white Jesus that Youngkin had the
courage to, oh I don’t know, grovel before MAGAts as he tries to woo them away
from various Don Turmps to clear a path to the White House.

It
is not only Virginia that is hell-bent on taking us all backwards in time. Why
would they stop with banning books? You know they want to clean up – well,
whiten up – America. Pretend slavery never happened. Deny the Holocaust. Pray the
gay away. Get rid of voting. It can’t happen here? It is in process at this
very moment. Several states are doing their best to do the worst. They will not
stop voluntarily. They must be figuratively beaten down. At first.
It ain’t spring break, it’s a psychotic break!
You won’t believe what these yahoos are up to.

Texas
wants to ban a book titled We the Students: Supreme Court Cases for and
about Students by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD). The book delineates the
constitutional rights of public school students and was sponsored by the
Supreme Court Historical Society. The book includes a case in which the Supreme
Court struck down the removal of books from public school libraries.
Not
to be out-dumbed, a Tennessee school board has banned the ground-breaking
graphic novel Maus by Art Spiegelman, the only graphic novel ever to win a
Pulitzer Prize. Maus is considered by many to be the gold standard for teaching
children about the Holocaust – the one where the Nazis murdered six million
Jews, not the one where people were required to wear protective masks to keep
from dying and killing others during a deadly virus pandemic – just so we’re
clear. Some board members felt that the book’s language was rough. Others
weighed in that the actual Holocaust was kind of rough. Surely there must be a
happier way to teach children about it. Something like Adolf and the Funny
Solution. Maybe it would have been better not to have it.
Speaking of murderous dictators, why is everyone surprised to hear people like Fucker Carlson siding with Putin and Russia? All the talking heads seem to have forgotten that the moment Barack Obama became president, all kinds of Ratpublicans began singing the praises of Putin. I wonder why they pulled such a 180 on Russia, lauding a “strong” Putin while deriding a weak Obama. Anyone with a shred of honesty knew exactly why these frightened white men sided with Putin. Now, these shameless traitors will side with anyone over any Democrat, because Democrats are supported by and (sort of) supportive of people who look like Barack Obama…whatever that means. And just look at the way these racists (there, I said it) are reacting to Joe Biden’s “threat” to put a black woman on the Extreme Court. They would rather he nominate Putin.
