Witnesses? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Witnesses

Alexander The Weight

February 3, 2020
There is neither reason nor ability to sugarcoat it.  There is no point trying to minimize the pall of depression enveloping most of America.  We knew this was going to happen, but it is still nauseating, depressing and alarming.  Seventy-five percent of Americans were in favor of hearing witnesses and having an actual trial to determine the disposition of Donald Chrump, who everyone knows broke the law, endangered our and Ukraine’s national security and then obstructed all efforts to investigate his crime(s).  The impeachment “trial” of Donald Chrump is now the only impeachment trial in American history to include zero witnesses.  Another incomparable moment in the fascist legacy of Mitch McConnell.
It's his party and we’ll die if he wants us to
Mitt Romney briefly engaged the spine no one knew he had.  Susan Collins got permission from Moscow Mitch to vote in favor of witnesses – because there was no way the Republican’t majority would be broken – as a last-ditch effort to save her senate seat.  Collins deserves no credit whatsoever and hopefully will be soundly sent packing in November.  The fact that the Senate was desperately scuffling to scare up four lousy Republican’ts votes to have a majority favor having even one single witnesses IN A TRIAL is disgraceful on its face.  The fact that it could not be done is the political analog global climate crisis.  The Constitution is poised to burst into Australia-like flames.  Our democracy is facing a Category 6 hurricane.  The fact that this falls to the favor of Donald Chrump in particular is simply horrifying.
Lamar Alexander (R-TN), as one of his final acts before retiring voted against allowing the American public the apparent luxury of hearing direct testimony from even one single first-hand witness.  Alexander statement read in part, “There is no need for more evidence to prove something that has already been proven and that does not meet the U.S. Constitution’s high bar for an impeachable offense…It was inappropriate for the president to ask a foreign leader to investigate his political opponent and to withhold United States aid to encourage that investigation.  When elected officials inappropriately interfere with such investigations, it undermines the principle of equal justice under the law.”  He went on to say that the Constitution does not allow the Senate to convict such a president “simply for actions that are inappropriate.”
 A very thoughtful and measured statement to which the only possible response is – are you fucking kidding me?  Inappropriate?  Farting out your birthday candles in front of family and friends is inappropriate.  Chrump took a shit on the cake and then had his goons force everyone in the room to eat it.

The General Accounting Office said Chrump broke the law merely by withholding aid from Ukraine and even Alexander admitted that Chrump further transgressed by asking a foreign entity to meddle in our elections.  Inappropriate?  Chrump already engaged a foreign adversary to contaminate our election once, got elected and dismantled most of the federal government, the environment and America’s standing in the world.  It seems Mr. Chrump will in fact have to shoot someone to death in broad daylight, on live television to possibly move beyond inappropriate.  I would not say that person should be Lamar Alexander; that would be inappropriate.

Yesterday, on Meet the Press, Alexander stood his quicksand-like ground.  When asked how he felt about the president of the United States spouting Russian propaganda, he conceded that was “a mistake.”  The first thing I need to know here is which is worse –something being a mistake or inappropriate?  Alexander lamented the fact that Russia is attempting to “destabilize Western democracies, including us.”  He insisted that he had enough evidence to 1) find Chrump had committed at least one impeachable offense, and 2) vote not to convict him.  Confused?  Don’t be; it’s a waste of time.  You’re better off going straight to angry.  In any event, just because Lamar Alexander feels he has heard enough should not have resulted in him to deciding that others, particularly the American electorate, should not be allowed to hear more.  Have you heard enough?  I sure as hell have not.  And neither have 75 percent of the American public.  It seems Sen. Alexander has stayed too long at the unfair.

The ”Hair” and the Tortoise:
Russia, if you’re listening…we're all yours

Meanwhile, not a peep out of fake Ambassador and fake patriot John Bolton.  Bolton has clearly known about all of this in real time, and chose to write a book.  This might be shocking, but he could have reported the crime-in-progress.  According to reports, Bolton’s book will make it clear that he was aware of all of it, as was Mulvaney and the lead attorney for the defense during the mock Senate “trial,” White House Counsel Pat Cipollone.  Cipollone, who has spent the last week waxing dishonest about how House Managers’ “goal should be to give you all of the facts…And ask yourself…who doesn’t want to talk about the facts, who doesn’t want to talk about the facts?  Impeachment shouldn’t be a shell game.  They should give you the facts.”  Mirror please!  Remember, these are the best people, brought to you in living color by Donald Chrump.
No one should buy Bolton’s book.  No one should book him on his book tour.  Bolton should be persona non grata for keeping quiet when everything was on the line.  One imagines he has a reason for keeping his normally unstoppable mouth shut when it mattered most, but it cannot be a good one.
This Means War
It is time for Democrats to stop bringing crayons to a gunfight.  They should consider boycotting the State of the Union, or at the very least turn their backs on the lawless usurper.  Or perhaps they should, one after the other, go Joe “You Lie” Wilson on his ass.  Any adherence to decorum or protocol will be a mistake.  Democrats adhered to protocol by investigating and subsequently impeaching Chrump.  They adhered to protocol while they foolishly expected a fair hearing in the Senate, despite the fact that Constitutional scofflaw Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham promised the exact opposite.  Fuck these clowns.  This is now Chrump’s America, so it is imperative that we all play by his rules.  The first rule of Chrump’s America: NO RULES.
Republican’ts are the party of Donald J. Chrump;
Democrats need to become the party of Rufus T. Firefly
The only possible “good” news, is that Chrump will now feel even more unfettered, and will break even more, probably more substantial laws that will require Democrats to open up new charges, perhaps charges that even Republicant’s cannot countenance.
I. Mangrey reporting.  I rest my case.
