At one point during the dozen or so fake Benghazi hearings, Hillary Clinton was dragged into the ongoing charade for eleven straight hours of drinking water and testifying before Trey Gowdy’s clown-court. Fewer Americans died during the unfortunate albeit totally inconsequential 2012 Benghazi debacle (which occurred on hostile foreign soil) at the American diplomatic compound in Libya than died during the attempted coup and terrible tourist tragedy on American soil on January 6, 2021.

Despite the overwhelming meaninglessness of the Benghazi episode, Ratpublicans seized on the regrettable event to attack Clinton and attempt to disable her presidential aspirations. This was later made explicit by mental midget Kevin McCarthy in 2015 as Clinton was poised to beat realty-tv candidate Donald Turmp: “Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping.” Nice priorities, Kev.

Unlike the Benghazi blip, the January 6 insurrection (which occurred on American soil in our nation’s Capital) will go down in history as a significant, hopefully singular event, despite Ratpublicans’ desperate attempts to Orwell it into a happy day where Capitol police welcomed loving patriots into the Capitol for a cup of tea.

Five Americans lost their lives – and more than 140 law enforcement professionals were injured – as a direct result of the terrorist attack by radical white supremacists/Turmp cultists. The death toll might have been much higher and much more significant had the mob been able to carry out their mission of hanging then vice president Mike Pence as well as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and an untold number of other legislators on the seditionists’ to-do-in list.

After attempting to include the insurrectionist Ratpublican Party in a bipartisan effort to uncover the truth and hold all those responsible accountable for the attempted coup, Democrats were forced to create their own select committee.

To be fair, it is not surprising that the party of Turmp would want no parts of an honest and thorough investigation. A number of them, their leader included, are clearly culpable, some to a degree that is likely criminal at best. Given the depth and breadth of the Ratpublicans’ complicity, they should not even be permitted to participate in investigating their own criminal behavior.

Stop Bringing Silly Putty To A Gunfight

Now, if they are smart, and finally willing to play by the same rules that Ratpublicans play by, the Democrats should, a) drag the investigation out as long as possible – at least until the eve of the 2022 midterm elections, b) subpoena McCarthy and McConnell who can both be seen on video placing blame directly on the stooped shoulders of the Insurrectionist-in-Chief Donald Turmp, c) subpoena every member of Congress who supplied aid and comfort to the terrorists and, d) subpoena the head Cheese-puff himself. If they do not honor these subpoenas, take them to court. Scream about their obstruction and obfuscation every day – cable news is on 24/7 and they need something to talk about. Once any or all of them are compelled to testify, make them do so for hours and hours on national television. Democrats have the truth and democracy on their side. They should mercilessly bludgeon Ratpublicans with these. If Democrats do not go to these lengths, they will have perpetrated a bigger farce than the entire Benghazi hearing/charade that, despite its absurdity, helped bring down Hillary Clinton, and saddled America with the cardboard-cutout-cowboy Donald Turmp. Enough already.
