Thought For The Day

The Bull Is In Our Court

June 7, 2022

After the partisan, anti-democratic Extreme Court 2010 decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission held that money was speech and corporations were people, a small group of unfettered big money donors and special interest groups began ramping up their dark money to influence elections. It is only getting worse over time.

When the Court gutted the voting rights act in the 2013 Shelby County v. Holder decision, southern states that had been subject to federal oversight due to racist assaults on voting rights suddenly felt free to disenfranchise black voters with reckless abandon. The electoral carnage continues unabated and will not slow down until action is taken.

What do we think will follow the Court’s striking down of Roe v. Wade in 2022? How will forcing victims of incest and rape to bear their attackers' children change America? We have already seen Texas, Oklahoma and other IQ-deficient/testosterone-overdosed/radical-Christian-dominated states take drastic measures to ensure that women are forced to either give birth or risk their lives and freedom in order to seek the medical care they choose.

Injustice For All (Well, Most)

Funny coincidence - while all of these heinous affronts to democracy and humanity took at least five Supreme Court justices to agree to thwart the will of the American people, each of these travesties happened on the watch of Chief Justice John Roberts. May his legacy reflect the devastation his leadership has wrought on this nation during his reign of error.

Chief (In)justice John Roberts
