Don’t Tread On Anyone, Assholes

Many people across the socio-political spectrum – mostly on the fascist/Trump end – have complained to one degree or another, in one way or another about “woke” culture. Like all of Leaky Diaper Don’s sicko-phants and professional assholes like Bill Maher. Creatures like Florida gumball…I mean governor Ron Duhsantis constantly whining about how “Florida is where ‘woke’ goes to die”. Because heaven forbid white people should ever have to understand, empathize or apologize for bigotry, racism, misogyny or crimes against humanity.

Sure, there may be aspects or instances where things maybe went a bit far.Over-corrections are almost as common as things that need correcting. To paraphrase long-departed Republican Sen. Barry Goldwater, over-correcting in defense of civil rights, i.e., liberty and justice for all, is no vice. Erasing civil rights in pursuit of fascism is no virtue.

Over-corrections like this nation’s response to the horrific twin-original-sins of genocide against this land’s original inhabitants and the subsequent disgrace of the kidnapping, terror and torture of forcing Africans into slavery.

We probably went a bit overboard in righting these wrongs what with the constant apologies, placing Native Americans and descendants of slaves on a pedestal and the endless reparations. Oh wait, none of that ever came close to happening. Though at times there were concepts of a plan. Fortunately all the overburdened, underappreciated white folks, in their desperate fight for recognition and a fair shake, nipped that shit in the bud.

Today, under the tiny, but incredibly/unfortunately effective thumb of Dictator-On-Day-1-23(so far) Don any and all over-corrections in favor of tolerance, acceptance, embracing of differences, and correcting past wrongs, are being enthusiastically avoided. Anything even hinting at Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – the dreaded DEI, (which replaced CRT – the previous monster-under-the-Ratpublicans’-bed) – the embodiment of woke – is being reversed, memory-holed and erased – forgive the pun – with prejudice.

Surely we can soon expect to see the reinstatement of Confederate statues, flags and place names as what the white nationalists Don calls his base call “wokism” gets trampled under the feet of the new regime as surely and as effortlessly as the knee of Derek Chauvin pressed down on the neck of George Floyd. And the result will not be dissimilar, as the life of our democracy and our (relatively) civil society drains away in the gutter.

Let’s see how much everyone enjoys the return of “Asleepism”.
